I thought i’d share my stylesheet for the DEADPOOL costume update, which i did for the upcoming series hitting this November, with Brian “The Ginger Giant” Posehn, and “Hacksaw” Gerry Duggan writing.
I pulled back my bowstring for the first time and looked down the sight . I aimed for the closest one tearing down the barricade viciously to get in. it was a miss, landing at Nat’s feet who was still scrambling to get out of his sleeping bag. I hadn’t thought of how much the arrow would drop in the air. I added in this adjustment and got ready to fire again but jack was alright up and he killed the one I had missed. The Barricade didn’t stand a chance and was quickly toppled, doing little more than tripping up a zombie here and there. Jack as well as everyone else were slowly retreating taking whatever they could. They all ran for the back lading area. I shot at another zombie and managed to hit it in the chest and it fell to the ground, only to stand right back up.
Night had passed and I still hadn’t slept at all. Slivers of light now began to shine through the broken windows. I saw movement in the distance where everyone was now sleeping. The sun had begun to rise and slivers of light now shone through landing on Tabitha’s face. I waved her over and waited a few minutes for her to finally climb the rock wall to where I had been sitting all night. She sat in the beach chair across from me slapping down a deck of cards as she did so. We played cards for hours until the sun had risen to what I thought was ten o’clock or so. I heard another stirring and looked over thinking someone else was waking up. Tabitha saw it before me and let out a deafening scream. Right by the window were what I counted to be a seemingly endless number of zombies. The first one was just beginning to tear through the barricades we had haphazardly put up.
“Wow, I’m sorry dude, I had no idea I was going to scare you off of that wall.” It was a pretty sincere apology from Ronnie, so it was hard for me to be mad at him for it. I pulled myself to my feet and told everyone I was alright. Luckily I was mostly unharmed save for the bruise I could feel developing on my back. As retribution I had Ronnie carry the perch up along with a lawn chair that I found nearby. It took him one trip and I threw the chair up to him. I climbed to the top and secured the perch to some metal poles that protruded slightly from the rock wall. It was pretty comfortable by the time I sat down and even more importantly I had an unobstructed view of the entire area. I looked through the scope on my bow and pulled on the bow string. I had fired a bow a few times before in elementary school, but I wasnt anything special, barely hitting the target at fifty yards. I would have to practice some tomorrow if I ever had any chance of hitting a moving zombie. I sat in my chair day dreaming of killing zombie after zombie like a video game.
I closed my eyes just before hitting the ground and now they wouldn’t open. I struggled as hard as I could to get them to open. They slowly peeled open and I looked around. I was no longer laying on the ground. I was slowly fluttering up toward the top of the rock wall, everyone below now standing around my corpse as Ronnie tore into it. Everyone just looked down at me laying on the ground, but Ronnie’s head slowly lifted up to look me right in the eye. I unwaveringly held his gaze, staring into his face willed with the satisfaction of a hearty meal. I blinked and reopened my eyes to see the unfinished roof of the bass pro shop. Everyone was standing around me, including Ronnie who had a little more than half of his face wiped clean, while the other portion was still coated in flour and ketchup. I guess without my glasses on he had passed for a real zombie.
I grabbed hold of the first rock in my left hand to hoist myself up, I put my right foot on an orange rock. Everything was going very smoothly. Five or six rocks higher I looked down to judge my progress. My first two climbs had left me completely unafraid of this particular height but I couldn’t help being nervous. I turned back to the wall and continued climbing. I heard someone shout my name and turned fast to see Ronnie almost directly underneath me. Only now he was a zombie. The shock value was enough for me to lose hold of the rock and I fell through the air. I tried to rotate my body in the air so that I could make an attempt to catch myself. Immediately I hit the ground. Any air that was previously in my lungs was now gone.
I awoke to the patter of rain against the roof. The sound echoed throughout the space, making it sound like it was raining very hard. I got out of my sleeping bag and stood up to see that it was just drizzling. I unboxed the tree perch and tried to figure out the directions. A few people went out to see if Super Fresh had any food left. The perch wasn’t too tricky to figure out, I just needed a place to put it. Then I had the wonderful idea of putting it at the top of the rock-climbing wall in the center of the room. First I scaled the wall twice to see if I could do it and then made the attempt to climb it with the perch. Assembled it weighed about ten pounds in my hand. I carried it in my right hand, put my left foot on the wall, and took a step up to grab a rock in my left hand.
I made a third trip back through the store and got the tree perch I had passed earlier. I don’t exactly know why I grabbed it. I guess I just felt that it could come in handy so I went for it. I found sleeping bags and went to rejoin everyone else. They all already had sleeping bags and some were even lucky enough to have air mattresses. Jack got ready to take the first watch and I got into my sleeping bag. The day had left me so exhausted that it wasn’t hard at all for me to fall into a deep sleep.
As the sun began to set I remembered that I still had no place to sleep. I walked through the aisles looking for a sleeping bag; I saw the back wall covered in guns. I was drawn in like a mosquito to outdoor lights. There were a few guns left on the shelves but no bullets remained. Disappointed I walked down two more aisles with riflescopes, tree perches, targets, as well as decoys. The next aisle was full of bows and crossbows. I felt the rise in my stomach again as I looked at all of the weapons. It was like every other time I had been to the shop with the exception that now I could have anything I wanted. I grabbed as many as I could carry and brought them up to the front for everyone else. Surprisingly Liz and Ronnie had the same expression that I pictured myself having when I first found the bows. Everyone picked something that they liked. I myself chose a crossbow after realizing how strong the draw weight on the cross bows were. Tabitha and Nat went back down the aisles with me and grabbed almost all of the arrows and some quivers along with some targets.
